What are Worship Services Like?
“Warm, welcoming, open and thought-provoking” – These words are often used to describe worship at First Presbyterian Church. Worship is a sacred time and space to center ourselves in God who equips us to go into the world as disciples.
Welcome to worship! There is a place for you!

We gather at worship to praise God through stimulating sermons, biblical lessons, soulful prayers, great music and joyful singing. In addition to Christian holidays, we sometimes worship with other churches, celebrate in the outdoors or focus on specific topics, like our Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration, Earth Day or Blessing of the Animals.
“At First Presbyterian we come together from a variety of backgrounds, not just Presbyterian – some of us grew up in other Protestant denominations, some are former Roman Catholics, and for some, this is their first church experience. It’s a blended congregation with a blend of worship styles that brings us all together as we worship the Lord.”
For Children & Young People
Children are always welcome!
- Young people provide worship leadership by lighting candles, ushering with their parents, bringing communion elements into worship with their families and being liturgists and choir member
-
“Time for the Young Church” during Sunday services
-
Children’s Bulletins and “Worship Bags” are available
-
“God’s Wiggle Room” is a special place for children and caregivers just outside the sanctuary.
-
A nursery with audio-feed for kindergarten age and younger is available.
Sacraments
Holy Communion
Because we believe that this sacrament is a gift from God, anyone who has been baptized into the Body of Christ is welcome at the table. You do not need to ask permission first – only trust in Jesus’ promises. Holy Communion is celebrated at services on the first Sunday of each month and on the Saturday before the first Sunday of the month. On Saturdays we celebrate The Lord’s Supper by intinction, as we dip the bread into the cup. On Sundays, we usually serve the sacrament in trays at your seat.
Baptism
Baptism is the other sacrament celebrated in the Presbyterian Church (USA). At the parents request, we celebrate baptism for children as a sign of holy grace which surrounds us always. We may also celebrate an infant dedication, thanking God for these precious ones who may be confirmed later. It is joy for us to celebrate the baptism of youth and adults as well when they join this congregation if they have not been baptized previously.
